On Sunday our senior team will try to win the club’s fourth senior title while Eire og will be trying for their seventh having last won in 1990 In total ennis has won 16 titles to date through club’s called ennis ennis dalcassians ennis athletic and faugh a ballagh along with Eire og The Eire og club was founded in 1952 but interestingly 14 years previous an Eire og team made up of players from here ballynacally barefield crusheen kilnamona and kilmaley took part in the senior championship but lost both games they played to Clarecastle and ennis dals this was only year this combo played after that ballyea players played senior with Clarecastle and in 1943 paddy Markham became the first player from here to win a county title playing at corner forward. Clarecastle also won in 45 and 49 with the 45 team (photoed above) having the best ballyea representation with michael and paddy Markham (they lived where the Browne s live now) and Joe o Connell (grand uncle of present players Gearoid and Brandon) It took till 1973 for the next ballyea player to play in a final which was Gerry Longe and after that by paddy quinn and the Sheedy brothers Martin and Stephen on numerous occasions until a ballyea team contested a final for the first time in 2003 when they played Clarecastle
